Background
Kiersten is a third-year student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the Colorado School of Mines. She became interested in environmental engineering and research in high school after conducting her IB Biology Internal Assessment about the impacts of climate change on agricultural productivity. At Mines, she is a member of the Blue Key Honor Society, treasurer of the Mines Solar Decathlon and Tiny House Club, and the Lead Energy Engineer at the Department of Energy-sponsored Rocky Mountain Industrial Assessment Center. Kiersten joined the Strathmann Group in the fall of 2023 and works with Postdoctoral Associate Anderson Ellis on the use of hydrothermal technologies to degrade PFAS in wastewater biosolids. Outside of academics, she enjoys spending her free time outdoors, including skiing, hiking, backpacking, playing soccer, biking, and running.
