Background

Aron developed an appreciation for the inherent value of natural resources growing up in central Pennsylvania and upstate New York. This passion was formalized during his sophomore year at Penn State when he enrolled in the course “Introduction to Environmental Engineering”. That semester he also joined the lab of the course’s instructor, Dr. Christopher Gorski, where he worked for the remainder of his undergraduate career. Aron proceeded directly to graduate school and earned his M.S. at UC Berkeley. Wanting to gain some breadth of experience and explore career options, Aron then spent four years as a design engineer at Hazen and Sawyer where he was involved in a variety of projects in water and wastewater treatment. Aron joined the Strathmann group at the Colorado School of Mines in the fall of 2020, eager to apply his accumulated experience towards the advancement of water treatment technologies. His work will focus on the development of hybrid treatment trains for the removal and subsequent destruction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and associated co-contaminants, including further validation of hydrothermal alkaline treatment technologies. Outside of the lab Aron is excited to explore the Colorado outdoors.
