Timm joined Mines in 2015 as a Professor in the Department Civil and Environmental Engineering, and he holds a joint collaborative research appointment at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). He is also a member of the Reinventing the Nation’s Urban Water Infrastructure (ReNUWIt) Engineering Research Center. From 2003 to 2014 he was on the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research interests focus on the development innovative technologies for more sustainable water purification, bioenergy, and resource recovery from waste streams, and on the study of the fate of contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) in aquatic systems. Timm is the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, and his research has been sponsored by NSF, USEPA, USDA, DOD, DOE, and the Water Research Foundation. He also currently serves as an Associate Editor for Environmental Science & Technology. Timm lives in Golden with his wife Stefanie, son Nicholas, and daughter Katherine. In his spare time he is learning to take advantage of all the outdoor activities in Colorado.
