About

Timm joined Mines in 2015 as a Professor and is currently the Associate Department Head in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. Previously, from 2003 to 2014 he was on the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research interests focus on the development innovative technologies for more sustainable water purification, bioenergy, and resource recovery from waste streams. Recent research focuses on development of new technologies for treatment and destruction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Timm is the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, and his research has been sponsored by DOD, NSF, USEPA, USDA, DOE, the Semiconductor Research Corporation, and the Water Research Foundation. Timm lives in Golden with his wife Stefanie, son Nicholas, and daughter Katherine. In his spare time he enjoys weight training and fitness, mindfulness activities, and taking advantage of all the outdoor activities in Colorado.
